Here’s how to fill it out

Information about the visa applicant:

  • Full name, date of birth, and address of the Chinese citizen intending to visit Italy.
  • Purpose of the trip (tourism, business, visiting relatives or friends).

Information about the host in Italy:

  • Full name and personal details of the guarantor/host (the person inviting).
  • Complete residential address in Italy.
  • Phone number and/or email for contacts.

Accommodation guarantee:

  • Statement specifying the availability of accommodation for the visitor’s stay in Italy.
  • Specify the type of accommodation (private property, rental, etc.) and the exact address.

Economic support:

  • Declaration regarding the economic support the host will provide to the visitor during their stay in Italy (e.g., meals, accommodation, internal travel expenses).
  • Bank Guarantee for a duration of 90 days.

Supporting documents:

Signature:

  • The letter must be signed by the host.

Here are the documents that usually need to be attached:

Signed invitation letter:

  • It must include all relevant information about both the host and the visitor, as previously described.

Host’s identity document:

  • Copy of the host’s passport or ID card.

Proof of relationship between the host and the visitor (if applicable):

  • Documents demonstrating the family or personal relationship, such as marriage certificates, birth certificates, correspondence, photos together, etc.

Accommodation documentation:

  • If the host owns the home: a copy of the property deed or a recent property tax payment.
  • If the host is renting: a copy of the rental contract and the landlord’s permission if necessary.

Proof of financial means:

  • Recent bank statements of the host demonstrating the ability to cover the visitor’s expenses during their stay in Italy.

Legal documentation:

  • Legalized documents as required by the Embassy or Consulate (sometimes the signature on the invitation needs to be legalized at the Prefecture).

Visitor’s travel itinerary:

  • If available, a draft of the visitor’s travel itinerary can be useful, including details of flights and visit schedules.

In China, there are several Italian embassies and consulates. On the website of the Italian Embassy in China, you will find all the updated addresses.

Starting from February 12, 2024, applications for the National Visa (type “D” – from 91 to 365 days) must be submitted directly to the Embassy’s Visa Office, by appointment via the Prenot@mi link. Applications for Schengen Visas (type “C” from 1 to 90 days) will continue to be handled by the IVAC Visa Centers. For payment details, refer to point 6.

Applicants, regardless of the type of visa, must submit their application at the Italian General Consulate competent for their place of residence, according to the geographical division of the Italian consular districts in China. It is essential to carefully complete and sign the visa application form, ensuring the truthfulness and completeness of the attached documentation. Confidentiality of personal data is recommended.

Biometric Data: The procedure for collecting biometric data is mandatory and takes place at the time of submitting the application. Fingerprints are stored for a maximum of 59 months. Children under 12 years old and people for whom collection is physically impossible, as well as Heads of State and members of the Government on official visits, are exempt from biometric data collection.

Where to Submit the Visa Application:

  • “C” SCHENGEN VISA: at the IVAC Visa Centers in their area of residence.
  • “D” NATIONAL VISA: at the Embassy’s Visa Office, by appointment with Prenot@mi.

Who Can Apply for a Visa: The visa application can be submitted by Chinese citizens residing in the consular areas of Beijing, Tianjin, and other specified provinces, as well as by third-country nationals subject to a visa who reside in these areas.

Information on Schengen Visas (Type C) Schengen Visa (Type C) Cost:

  • Adults: 80 euros – payable in RMB at IVAC Visa Centers.
  • Minors aged 6 to 12 years: 40 euros – payable in RMB at IVAC.
  • Citizens of countries with visa facilitation agreements with the European Union: 35 euros (payable in RMB). For the list of countries, consult the European Commission’s website.
  • To check the equivalent in RMB according to the current exchange rate, you can consult the conversion table available at IVAC centers.

Visa Fee Exemptions: The following groups are exempt from visa fees:

  • Children under six years of age.
  • Students and teachers traveling for study or training.
  • Researchers traveling for scientific research, in accordance with Recommendation 2005/761/EC.
  • Representatives of non-profit organizations under 25 years old participating in events organized by non-profit entities.
  • Family members of EU/EEA citizens accompanying or joining such citizens, as defined by Directive 2004/38/EC and Legislative Decree 30/2007:
    • Spouses
    • Registered partners
    • Direct descendants under 21 years old or dependents
    • Dependent parents or grandparents
    • Holders of a diplomatic passport.
  • At IVAC Visa Centers, a “service fee” of 62 RMB for ADS visas and 78 RMB for all other visa types is also required.

Visa Processing Times:

  • Schengen Visas (Type C): The maximum processing time is 15 days, extendable up to 45 days if necessary.
  • National Visas (Type D): The processing times are generally 90 days, reduced to 30 days for family reasons and subordinate work, and extended up to 120 days for self-employment.
  • It is recommended to submit the visa application at least 15 days before departure and up to a maximum of six months in advance.

Additional Important Information:

  • Entry into the Schengen Area: Possession of a visa does not automatically guarantee entry. At border controls, proof of means of support, duration, and purpose of stay may be required.
  • Visa Refusal: In case of refusal, the reasons will be communicated to the applicant, who can submit a new appeal or supplement the missing documentation. The appeal must be submitted within 60 days of the notification of refusal.

Correct Use of the Schengen Visa:

  • The visa allows staying in the Schengen area for the number of days indicated, during the period specified in the visa.
  • The number of permitted entries can be one, two, or multiple. Frequent visitors can apply for multiple-entry visas.
  • It is essential to monitor the duration of the stay to avoid exceeding the allowed limits. To calculate the remaining days, you can use the European Commission’s calculation system.
